Biotronik's Cobalt Chromium coronary stent, PRO-Kinetic, designed to maximise the benefits of the latest advance in new stent material, hasgained the CE mark. The PRO-Kinetic incorporates radial strength with thinner struts, and is indicated for the treatment of coronary arteries from 2.0-5.00mm. An International Registry with the new PRO-Kinetic Cobalt Chromium coronary stent system has already begun and will be followed by an international clinical study (angiographic follow up planned).
The company believes the advantages of PRO-Kinetic are further enhanced by a new double helix stent design engineered to provide 3D flexibility and a state of the art delivery system, which is designed to ensure reliable access of distal and tortuous anatomy. Lastly, PRO-Kinetic is coated with Probio, a Silicon Carbide layer that has been shown to improve haemo- and bio-compatibility of the stent over currently available uncoated cobalt alloy devices.
"The PRO-Kinetic stent has a very low profile, as well as excellent trackability and flexibility, which is optimal for direct stenting." remarked Marlou Janssen, Vice President Sales and Marketing, Biotronik Vascular Intervention.
He commented, "The Probio coating provides a unique benefit to the patient by reducing metal ion diffusion, which has been recently linked to increased restenosis rates." A recent animal trial conducted by the company confirmed remarkable reduction of restenosis with the PRO-Kinetic versus non-coated Cobalt Chromium competitor devices.
