Dexamet utilises the drug compound Dexamethasone, which is a corticoid with a proven anti-inflammatory action. Dexamethasone is preloaded onto the biocompatible and proven coating platform of Phosphorylcholine (PC Technologyâ„¢). The coating enables the release of Dexamethasone during the initial inflammatory phase caused by the stent implantation.
The three components of the coronary stent system are:
The BiodivYsio stent system with its competitive balloon and catheter
The PC technology coating is made of Phosphorylcholine (PC), which makes it biocompatible, non-thrombogenic and non-inflammatory
Dexamethasone is a safe and non-cytotoxic corticoid that reduces inflammation
The BiodivYsio stent and the coating has been approved since 1997 in Europe and 2000 in the US. This unique and safe platform allows the delivery of Dexamethasone locally.
This unique combination has created the first drug-eluting stent that has demonstrated vascular safety of all its components (stent + coating + drug compound). The six-month MACE (Major Adverse Cardiac Events) with Dexamet is very low at 3.3% in the STRIDE trial which corresponds to an 80% reduction in the MACE rate when compared to the same stent without Dexamethasone. Numerous other studies are also currently being carried out to validate the safety and benefits of the Dexamet stent.
