Acute and subacute thromboembolic and local thrombotic ischemia of the limbs are still some of the most frequent reasons for amputation. The standard surgical treatment of occlusions below the inguinal ligament consists of the Fogarty manoeuvre, with all the limitations of surgical intervention and the danger of distal embolisation. The common radiological procedure of localised lysis is time intensive, requiring costly intensive care, and is associated with a high risk of embolism and haemorrhage.

The Rotarex® Thrombectomy System is the most advanced catheter based Thrombectomy system available today. Combining two essential effects:
  • Mechanical clot fragmentation by a rotating head and side cutting windows.

  • Safe and effective removal from the vessel by the patented Rotarex® vacuum system.

  • The effect of which dramatically reduces procedural time and distal embolisation.

This over-the wire catheter tip consists of two superimposed cutting heads connected to a rotating screw and the inner cutting heads fixed to the catheter shaft. The outer part of the cutting head is driven at 40000 – 600000 rpm (depending on the catheter in use) and the high frequency of revolution creates a negative pressure of 5,8 kPa (=43.5 mm Hg). This action removes fresh and organised thrombotic material through the lateral holes, where it is further macerated and transported externally via the rotating screw into a collecting bag. The aspiration rate of the catheter is 1,5 ml/sec. with fresh thrombus aspirated at a rate of 10mm/sec. and organized solid material in 2.5 mm/sec.

    Now available in two versions:
  • Flexible 8F crossover catheter

  • 6F version for below the knee

  • Based on clinical feedback the latest Rotarex® Thrombectomy Catheter has been designed to meet the highest demands of flexibility, excellent trackability and pushability to reach and cross the target lesion contralateral to the puncture site. The over-the-wire Rotarex® Thrombectomy offers real advantages over alternative devices, the most important being the combination of 4 functions in one precision instrument.
  • Detachment of the blood clot

  • Suction into the cutting windows

  • Macerating

  • Safe transportation out of the vessel

  • Overall, it provides the best method for rapid, safe and decisive thrombectomy.
