Professor Josef Rösch's contribution to radiology, from splenoportography to teleconferencing has been immense. Further recognition of his work came in 2003 with the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Society of Europe (CIRSE) establishing a lecture in his name.
Professor and Director of Research at the Dotter Interventional Institute of the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), Portland, Oregon, Josef Rösch, gave the inaugural Josef Rösch Lecture entitled 'The early years and the future of interventional radiology' during the CIRSE annual meeting in 2003. This year, at the CIRSE meeting in Barcelona, the second Josef Rösch Lecture was given by Dr Fred Keller, Director of the Dotter Interventional Institute and Chair of the Department of Diagnostic Radiology at OHSU.
CIRSE presents a medal to the lecturer who gives the Josef Rösch Lecture and according to Professor Rösch his granddaughter is much taken with his medal having as it does her grandfather's face on it.
During his career, Rösch has been honoured with many awards, some of which can be seen in the accompanying picture. Since Interventional News profiled Professor Rösch in 2003, Issue 9 (for back issues see www.CXvascular.com), he has been presented with the Distinguished Scientist of the American Heart Association 2004 and will receive the Distinguished Career Award from the Interventional Symposium on Endovascular Therapy in 2005.
