Vertebroplasty hands-on workshops at CIRSE 2007
|

At this year’s Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE) meeting held in Athens, Greece, a series of very successful hands-on vertebroplasty workshops ran throughout the entire meeting. Instructed by Professor Afshin Gangi, Strasbourg, France, and Drs Alexis Kelekis, Athens, Greece and Tarun Sabharwal, London, UK, each workshop began with a theoretical introduction as well as a brief review of the principle and indications of vertebroplasty. Those who attended were divided into smaller groups headed by each of the instructors. This provided attendees with the opportunity to ask questions and gain more interaction with the instructor and the group. Once the introductory sessions concluded, participants were able to practice needle placement, cement preparation and injection on plastic spine models under fluoroscopic guidance. The workshops were particularly useful for radiologists who perform bone biopsies and are likely to start percutaneous vertebroplasty procedures, and also radiologists who have some experience and wished to consolidate their knowledge.
