This year’s training day combines the successful vascular revision course and some basic hand on training. Attendees in the morning will have some stimulating talks on topics ranging from medical management to anaesthesia. In the afternoon there will be cases presentations with open discussion on the management of a range of vascular disease process, this will be alternated with hands on experience of endovascular skills in a simulated environment. The training day is aimed at vascular trainees and has been kindly sponsored by Vascutek, Cordis and Guidant and importantly is free but registration must be confirmed with a refundable deposit.
Both Cordis and Guidant are supporting this initiative by providing endovascular skills training for 60 vascular surgeons in training, separated into four groups of 15 and following on from the half-day revision course for members of the EAVST. They will be using state of the art simulators so that young vascular surgeons can practice carotid artery and renal artery stenting techniques.
Vascular revision course For the past eight years, a half-day revision course for members of the EAVST has preceded the main meeting to help young surgeons with their national CCST diploma or European Board of Vascular Surgery (EBVS) examination. This has included lectures and case studies to improve the vascular and endovascular decision-making skills of these young surgeons (i.e. when to do what procedure). This will continue to be sponsored by Vascutek in both 2003 and 2004 when the company also wishes to provide hands on endovascular training.
Endovascular hands-on training One of the educational missions of the Charing Cross is to help vascular surgeons to develop endovascular skills. So on the same day and in the same venue as the ESVS Council and UEMS European Board of Vascular Surgery are meeting (Saturday 12 April in the Decade Suite of the Millennium Gloucester Hotel), we are looking to build on the EAVST revision course with a half day in the afternoon for hands-on training focused on endovascular techniques for peripheral renal and carotid artery stenosis.
